What size violin do I need?

How to measure
Have the player stand with their left arm extended straight out to the side. Measure from the base of the neck to the center of the palm. Match that arm length to the chart above — when a measurement falls between two sizes, the smaller size is usually the safer, more comfortable choice for a beginner.
Why sizing matters
An instrument that is too large makes a relaxed left-hand position and good technique hard to develop, and it can be discouraging for a young student. Because children grow quickly, many families choose rent-to-own or size-exchange plans so they can move up sizes without buying a new outfit each time.
